David Begley was commissioned to paint 'The Resurrection' in 2002 by the Arts Council of Ireland and The Church of The Most Holy Trinity, Bunclody County Wexford. The painting is positioned on the left wall behind the Altar in the Church.
Before making the piece Begley traveled to Rome, Wales, Seville and The Mojave Desert to research the work. In Ireland visits to Ardmore and Achill Island also inspired the final painting. It was during this time that he studied Fibonnachi's spirals and the Golden Section. The dimensions of 'The Resurrection' are in these ratios: 7.417Ft x 12ft, with Christ standing approximately at the centre of the underlying Fibonacchi Spiral. As part of the commission Begley made a documentary [solas] about the research and realisation of the painting. 'The Resurrection' is one of a series of works based on the Sacred Theme.
